The Joy of Collectible Cards

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

An alternative to the kids games on the Internet is a new and exciting pastime, the collectible card game. Children have the opportunity to pit their skills against others in person, and interact in ways that aren’t possible in the online world.

One major attraction to the fun provided by a trading card game is the art that’s available on these cards. Artists from all over the world contribute to the design and sometimes to the very concept of the character. The collectible card game fad is also popular due to the value of the collectible cards, and the trading potential. If you keep the cards in good shape, their value can increase over the years. So besides a large number of hours of fun, you have an asset that can connect you with other fans over time.

Strategic gameplay with kids games is also good for the imagination and strengthening creative skills. Kids have to use intellect and wit to beat out their opponents. A plus is that a card game takes no batteries, no computer, no special appliances. Just people! And the cards of course.

The stories behind the games also make for great entertainment. Perhaps the player will be protecting an entire world from destruction. Maybe they will be able to act out a hero role in the activity. From fantasy to the now popular sci-fi themes, you can find anything you like in the way of concepts for games. Most trading card games are also family-friendly. This means the entire family can get together for some quality time and share in the fun. With some games providing positive messages, such as saving the environment, there’s a lot to be gained for everyone.

Adopting a Shelter Dog

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

There is no greater love when it comes to be the ultimate dog lover than to adopt a dog or puppy from an animal shelter or rescue. Whoa, before you start down the road to your local ASPCA or rescue organization you have to be willing to sacrifice time and patience.

To adopt a dog whether it be a puppy or adult, is one of the greatest services we can give to our canine friends by providing them with a loving, caring, and positive environment for a shelter dog. You can start by throwing out all the preconcieved notions, myths, and negative ideas about shelter dogs. You are saving another living being’s life when you decide to adopt a dog from a shelter and give it a forever home!

Shelter dogs only need a little extra patience and training and that is no more than some of our dog store or breeder sold dogs! So are you still wondering if adopting a Shelter Dog is right for you?

Let me assure you that if you have just a little extra time, patience, and a loving home, it is! For starters, take a trip to your local animal shelter. Before you make any decisions while at the shelter, ask the animal shelter employees a few key questions: Ask about what kind of medical treatment the dogs receive. Most organized animal shelters will at least provide the minimum care necessary needed for a dog to go home with you.

Ask about what kind of medical treatment the dogs receive. Most organized animal shelters will at least provide the minimum care necessary needed for a dog to go home with you, however, there are some places that unfortunately neglect important medical guidelines.

Any organization that handles animals should have a licensed veterinarian on staff at all times. This veterinarian will provide vaccinations in order to prevent hepatitis, distemper, and other health issues. Ask the staff, or talk with the veterinarian if possible, if these dogs have had their blood checked for heartworms. And is the skin clean of fleas and other parasites?

These are just the basic medical requirements that every person should look for when adopting a dog from an animal shelter. Other needs may be a bit more complex.

For example, do you have your sights set on a dog that has been injured in the past, or is currently healing from an injury? What type of injury is it? What type of medication and treatment has the dog received? Ask about the cost of future treatment and medical needs that will arise.

Another important set of questions and research that you should talk with your local animal shelter about is whether or not they have a professional who evaluates each dogs’ temperament. Most shelters have this information posted on the front of each cage that is designated to the specific dog, or other animal.

It is important that you take this information and assess whether or not it is detailed enough so that the dog can be trusted with your family set up. The staff should also know how the animal reacts with children and around outside stimulants such as moving cars, other people, etc.

This information is valuable in determining whether or not the shelter dog you are considering will be a good match for your home situation. In addition, ask the staff specific questions regarding a dog’s attitude towards being submissive or dominant. Are they overprotective of territory? How often does aggressive behavior occur and for what reasons? The more questions you ask, the better you will feel when you take your adopted shelter dog home.

Since your are debating on buying a shelter dog your new doggie will need some bulk dog treats.

THESE ARE VERY IMPORTANT IN FINDING THE RIGHT SHELTER DOG FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! You will want to make the right choice and have the right fit to your family! You will also need to know if the shelter dog you are interested in is overprotective or , submissive or dominate in nature, how often aggressive behavior happens and for what reasons, and are there special circumstances that may provide answers to some behaviors in which you could help your potential new friend to overcome.

If you have a larger dog then you may need to pick up an xl dog Bed.

Making the choice to adopt a shelter dog is alot easier with the more questions you ask! Get to know your shelter employees and volunteers and perhaps you might want to foster a dog before making that final decision. Adopting a Shelter Dog is giving a living and breathing creature a new lease on life! You are giving them the chance of a lifetime, a home that they know is theirs and a family to love!

If you have a smaller puppy then you will want to check out a variety of Tiny Dog Clothes right now.

Demolition

Introduction

Taking down old buildings and replacing them with new is a process that has been going on for thousands of years. The destruction of buildings might have occurred during battles or attacks on towns; or due to natural disturbances such as earthquakes or volcanic activity. The resultant ruins would need to be removed and rebuilt. So the idea of demolition would have come about where a population wished to re-inhabit a specific area or site. (One famous example is the Holy Temple in Jerusalem which was deliberately destroyed by the Assyrians around 586 BCE. After 50 years of occupation the Jews returned to Jerusalem and began the re-construction of the second temple which took seventy years to complete.)

However the actual word to demolish only came into being in 1570, and was used from then on to mean the deliberate taking down or destroying of a building or structure.

Preserving the past - preparing the future.

In a country like Britain with very dense populations per square mile, there is a limited amount of land available for development. The land between built up areas of the villages and towns is known as Green Belt and is protected from development to preserve the agricultural and natural heritage which is vital to the economy of the country.

The outcome of this policy is that there is a constant shortage of land for housing and industry, so the developers have to be more creative when providing structures for the population. One of the ways of doing this is to find places where the buildings are no longer commercially viable or have been abandoned, and re-use the area for different purposes. These areas are known as brownfield, or greyfield sites. In some cities, particularly Leeds and Manchester, the old warehouses or factories have been converted into apartments, retaining the original shell and reconfiguring the internal dimensions into modern living accommodation.

Brownfield sites are disused industrial and commercial facilities where the land may be contaminated with hazardous waste or pollution. They are potentially valuable for significant redevelopment once they have been cleaned up. Greyfield sites are urban properties that have been underutilised or abandoned, but do not have the environmental issues of brownfield sites. They were termed greyfield sites because of large areas of asphalt that covered the land. These sites are valuable because they already have the infrastructure such as water, sewage, electricity and gas in place and do not need remedial work to develop the site.

When a structure is to be removed there are different ways of approaching the task. The size and construction of the building, the new use of the site and whether there are valuable elements suitable for re-use, will all determine how it is to be demolished.

Traditional Demolition

Traditionally, once all the services were disconnected, the machinery and men would go in and just knock down the walls which caused the roof to collapse and then drag all the wreckage away. Any concrete hard standing would be broken up ready for removal. The non environmentally sound dismanlting work just cleared debris straight to waste sites. However modern demolition practices are very controlled and are subject to strict planning, safety and monitoring regulations.

Small structures such as two or three storey houses can be dismantled quite easily with hydraulic excavators and bulldozers using an undermining process. The walls are undermined at the base, in order to topple the structure; at the same time the manner and direction of the fall is controlled. Clean-up and safety issues are also taken into account when determining how the building will be undermined and demolished.

Larger buildings such as tower blocks and chimneys require more specialist techniques, and are outlined below.

Deconstruction

A new approach to demolishing buildings is deconstruction - a green approach. The aim is to diminish the amount of waste going to landfill sites by carefully preserving valuable materials for reuse. The work may be a painstaking task of dismantling by hand - brick by brick - or beam by beam. The reclaimed materials are then recycled or re-used for future buildings. The results of deconstruction can save in excess of 90% waste from going to a landfill site. When the farmer opposite to my house sold his farm yard with barns for housing, the builder demolished the barns, cleaned up the bricks and reused them for the perimeter wall of the farmhouse. At the time I was looking for some rubble as a base for a path and the builder let me take several barrow loads off his pile.

Recycling

Historically when old buildings were ruined from disuse or war damage the local people would gradually remove the stone and use it to build their new structures such as houses or barns. Hadrian’s wall between Carlisle and Newcastle has mostly vanished because after the Romans left, the local population made off with the beautifully dressed stone the Roman craftsmen had used in the building of the wall. So even in those days people understood the value of recycling because it was much cheaper than having to quarry and dress the stone themselves.

At one time the rubble resulting from a demolished building would be taken to a landfill site for disposal. Now however concrete can be rapidly broken up with the latest machine called a guillotine and the resultant rubble can be crushed and used as sub-base material for the foundation of the new building which is to replace the old, or sent to other construction sites. These days this crushed rubble is called 6f2 crushed stone or 6f2 crushed material.

Modern machinery and techniques allows the demolition companies to efficiently segregate waste types on or off-site. Wherever possible construction materials are recycled and re-used in the new structure. Recycling of waste contributes to a significant savings in project costs and is good for the environment.

When we renovated our bungalow 20 years ago the builder, who was a bell ringer, found an old beam from a bell tower that was being renovated, and after carefully treating it, installed it in the kitchen. It gave the room some badly needed character and has never needed any further treatment.

Copper pipes, wiring, roof tiles or slates, floor tiles and doors, and wood panelling are some of the valuable artifacts that are saved for recycling and re-use. There are specialist yards in many towns where reclaimed old or antique artefacts are available for purchase.

Tall Buildings

With demolition on high buildings expert techniques are required. In some cases a wrecking ball on a crane may be used to demolish the top part of a tall building until it is down to a manageable height. However this process is rarely used by professional demolition companies today due to the uncontrollable factor of the swinging ball and the proximity of other buildings.

Other methods of demolition of tall buildings are by implosion using explosives, controlled collapse and piecemeal. Also ‘High Reach’ demolition excavators are used where explosives are not possible. Once the building is down to a more manageable height demolition continues in the usual way.

The steeplejack Fred Dibnah became famous in the late 1970’s for his work on demolishing tall chimneys without the need for explosives. He would cut an ingress at the base of the chimney, use wooden props to support the brickwork and then burn the props so that the chimney toppled hopefully in the right direction.

The tallest building to be lawfully demolished was the Singer Building of New York in 1967/8. More recently the collapse of the World Trade Centre after the 9/11 attack in 2001 illustrates the terrible devastation that could occur if the demolition is not controlled and very carefully contained.

In the demolishing of tall buildings and large structures water hoses and spray equipment is used to control the dust and would is termed a wet demolition.

Explosions

What comes to mind for many people when they think about demolition would be the dramatic collapse of a tall building using explosives. However it is usually the process of implosion, using explosives, that brings down a tall building so that it does as little damage as possible to the surrounding environment. Implosion is essential for dense urban areas and is very fast, the collapse taking only seconds, with the building crashing inwards into its own footprint.

Using explosives is specialist work and is a very skilled process and getting it wrong can be catastrophic. If an implosion is not prepared correctly the danger may be damage to neighbouring structures or even killing onlookers from flying debris. Even more dangerous is a partial collapse of a building where the remaining structure is unstable and there are still primed explosives that failed to go off. Workers are in great danger if or when continuing the demolition.

Other hazards of working with explosives occurs when the atmospheric pressure from low cloud above the implosion site will cause the shockwave to spread outwards instead of upwards. The wave of energy and sound created will break windows and cause other damage to the surrounding buildings.

Because of the dangers of working with explosives, implosion will only be used when other methods are too costly or impractical.

Health and Safety

Demolition of any building is highly dangerous and is a much more complicated and technical process than most people would realise. Experienced and skilled operators are essential to ensure safety for both workers and public alike. The stability of any structure is reliant on the interdependence of its component parts, so an incorrect sequence of dismantling could result in an unplanned collapse.

Health and safety is paramount in demolition work so personnel working in the industry have to be adequately trained. It is advisable for operatives to have gained a Certificate of Competence in Demolition to ensure they have the necessary skills and safety awareness. All demolition work is regulated by the Construction, Design and Management Regulations.

Sequence of Demolition

There has to be a sequence of actions before any demolition can take place. Each area council will have their own specific list for planning approval, but a typical order would be as follows:-

  • Provision of Information
The demolition company must provide information about the construction to be demolished, its previous use and the appropriate demolition method to be applied including disposal of hazardous substances.
  • Survey of Demolition
Identification of any structural problems as well as risks associated with hazardous or flammable substances the presence of asbestos, for example, requires asbestos surveys be performed.Where petrol has been stored, in a disused garage for example, precautions need to be taken to prevent a fire hazard.
  • Preferred and Safe Method of Work
A reputable company involved in demolition will be able to select the appropriate method of disposal. Planning and outlining the dismantling process is necessary for meticulous monitoring. A detailed statement outlining the safety process needs to be agreed by all parties involved before any demolition can take place.
  • Preparation and Planning
There is a lot of preparation to be done before starting work on demolishing the building itself. Issues such as asbestos abatement, disconnecting utilities, rodent baiting, dealing with hazardous substances and making safe any electric, gas or other services have to be resolved.
  • Protection of the Public
Where demolition is carried out in heavily populated areas the protection of the public is paramount. Safety cannot be compromised. Temporary services may need to be arranged, health hazards assessed and people inconvenienced will need to be informed.

Conclusion

The word ‘demolish’ is interpreted as the deliberate and controlled collapse of a structure. Demolition work is a very dangerous business and demolishing any building is a complex and skilled process. The aim in demolition is to remove an unwanted building as safely and quickly as possible, recycle or re-use most of the old material, and clear the site ready for the subsequent use.

In the centre of Nottingham over the last few years there has been a major reconstruction of what was an old car park into a brand new shopping complex. While this was going on the public were only really aware of the boarding around the area, a change in traffic direction and maybe some big lorries going in and out of the site.

So the next time you see buildings being demolished to make way for the new, give a thought to the company involved who’s team are daily working in a dangerous environment, adhering to all of the regulations and carefully and meticulously carrying out the project to bring us the modern conveniences we have come to expect and clearing the way for the future.

Compare Clothing Name Labels

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

People like to know which clothes and possessions belong to them, and in most cases this is not a problem If large numbers of people wear the same type of clothes, or have their clothing laundered together then some kind of name label identification is needed. There are many types of kids labels and we evaluate them all as follows:

School tag Appearance:
The most attractive labels are printed fabric or woven labels which need to be sewn into clothes, second place is shared by iron on labels and stikins and last place has to go to laundry markers and biro where the name is written into the garment.

Speed of Name Label Application
The fastestmethod of labelingclothes is a laundry pen followed by stikins and then iron on labelling. Sewing in labels comes last in terms of speed particularly if one is a non sewer, or have many labels to sew in.

Name Label Durability:
Washing machines remove dirt from garments, and have harsh environment for labels. Labels can fail because they come off or because the print fades. A well sewn in woven name label is the most durable solution and it should last the life of the garment. Mixed results come from iron on labels in terms of staying in; some are very good and some are poor, the kind of fabric they are ironed on to is also a factor, but they tend not to fade. Stikins name labels generally survive extremely well if applied correctly and the print does not fade. Laundry markers do tend to fade with time but there is no issue regarding falling off.

Name Label Cost:
Laundry markers are the cheapest and there are also some low priced label sew in tapes. Woven and embroidered labels have a range of prices and are often more expensive than iron in labels and stikins. The most expensive name labels are the ones that do not work, or need replacing often so buying cheap may not be good value in the end.

Which Name Label Is the Best?
None of the labels in this comparison is an overall winner, all have pros and cons and the most suitable for you will depend what is most important to you. If appearance overrides everything go for the best woven labels, if cost is vital buy a marker pen, if you want a good all round performer buy Stikins. A referral from a friend or samples first is a good way of making sure of the quality of iron on labels, which can also be good all rounders. So good luck choosing school tapes for your clothes.

Ringing Ears - Treatment Advice

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Constant Ringing In The Ears?

Are you scared to go out with chums or family because you know all you will be able to concentrate on is the constant ringing in the ear that you hear? Do you wish you might be free of this and could return to living a standard life? About 25% of all folks have tinnitus or a sound of ringing or buzzing in their ear. Out of those people only about 25% of them ever try to find a way to treat it or cure it. Here are some other stuff you must know about tinnitus.

First, when you start to hear the ringing in the ear you will notice it as a tiny and very faint sound. If this is left untreated and just left to get get louder and louder. It will become so loud that it distracts you from just about everything and it’s going to be nearly impossible to drown out with anything more. This will have a particularly negative effect on your life, particularly the social side of things and in really serious cases can really lead you to go insane.

Second, the ringing in the ear might have been caused by too much exposure to loud noises. If you’d like to keep it from getting worse, then you need to always be wearing ear plugs when you’re around anything loud and you need to ensure you are not playing music or the TV too loud as well. This will continue to damage the already hurt inner parts of your ears and will cause the noise to become worse and more distracting.

Last, this may have also been due to drinking too much alcohol and it is very common in recovering alcoholics. This is due to the balance problem that alcohol causes in your body, which may also cause the inner ear to be effected. You could have also ended up with this noise because of inner ear infections or having tubes put into your ears for long periods of time. Whatever the cause was you are certainly going to require to find a treatment or a cure so that it does not interrupt your life anymore.

Before you can even think about finding a ringing ears cure you must be sure as to why your tinnitus started in the 1st place. Exposure to noise accounts for at least eighty percent of all ringing in the ear cases worldwide. Ringing ears can be due to fireworks, gun shots, economic plant or even very noisy factories and if you are trapped by any of these noises on a daily basis you must use ear protection. Some common ear ringing mistakes:

If you follow a healthful diet and are getting plenty of exercise this will help in your quest for finding a ringing ears cure. Regular exercise can help excite the blood flow in the ear canal and help ease the noises. Your diet can also play a big part in your recovery, make sure you duck unnecessary alcohol intakes, chain smoking and eating foods piled high with salt. If you listen to music with earphones make sure that you keep the volume down, if you listen with earphones with the levels too high it can end up in tinnitus being caused.

Studies has shown that tinnitus occurs more frequently in fat adults. Vitamin B12 is a vitamin that you must involve in your regimen to boost a ringing ears cure. Some trials points to the fact that this vitamin helps to offer protection to the nerves in the inner ear. Milk and dairy products, meat and eggs are excellent for vitamin B12. According to the most recent trials there are many treatments for relaxing tinnitus, but there’s no one cure.

The information found here is for researching purposes only. No advice is meant. As with any condition it is advisabale to talk with a doctor before taking any medical advice.

Disclaimer: This posting is based on information freely available in the popular press and medical journals that deal with losing fat. Nothing herein is intended to be or should be construed to be any sort of medical advice. For medical advice the reader should consult with his or her physician or other medical specialist.

With a brief search on the internet, one will find that there are seriously thousands of weight loss methods being advertised online. It is no wonder that search terms such as “how to get thin” are among the most highly searched in the health/fitness category. Among the most popular are the products that contain some sort of wonder ingredient from a different country, such as the brand new guarana pure scam. With the acai craze dying down, guarana seems to be aiming for the top of the very same niche. Although actual experiences are hard to find, the product seems to be doing extremely well when used with regular diet/exercise.

The acai buzz isn’t all over though. There is a new product that has become very hot in the niche. It is called acai berry blast scam and it is excellent tasting while helping you lose weight. It is perfect for the coming summer months to look skinnier and better around other people especially when in a bathing suit.

Advance Your Site Commercial Enterprise Offline As Well As On The World Wide Web

Monday, May 25th, 2009

If you’ve started a site business doubtless you are marketing it online applying article marketing, social networking sites, forums and blogs etc. but do you put through free advertisement offline as well? No, it’s not world-wide I know, but you can advertize in places offline which will benefit your commercial enterprise on-line.

Okay, I am no marketing guru and don’t act to be just I have had success marketing offline in addition to online. Permit me state here that common sense needs to prevail and so of course it goes without saying that online marketing is ever going to be far more effective than offline even though this method acting should not, in my belief be omitted from your business altogether.

In most local papers they hold a sales section and in a lot of those you can place a lineage ad free of charge - perhaps 4 or 5 lines and sometimes, as is the case in my local newspaper publisher, they will release the advertising in their sister newspaper publishers also. Admittedly some papers won’t admit adverts with website addresses but some will so hand it a try out.

Sure though doing work from home is simply that, many folk who are earning money online make small cards produced up and go out for a few hours a week putting these card adverts on cars in parking lots. It’s not difficult exercise and it gets your internet site name out there. Many A supermarkets allow you to set an advertising on their public boards which are designed for advertising - bug out an taking advert with your web site address in 4 or 5 supermarkets.

Put your web site business in the local rag mag, you know the small ordinary paper folders that sometimes get posted through your doorway. You may suffer to pay a really bitty amount for the priviledge but it’s other avenue to make yourself known.

I know this will not fit each web site business for individual causes simply they are worth a try in your local area. Go on hand it a try and view what happens. You may be pleasantly surprised.
